My love for the outdoors began when I was around 10 or 11 years old. I loved being outside and going “hunting ” with my dad. I would always just tag along with him without a gun or bow just because I enjoyed being with him in the woods and I used to love it when he got a shot at a deer and I could experience it with him. I remember the day that I fell in love with hunting was on the last day, the year before I killed my first deer. I was so upset that the season had ended and I did not get a shot, but that made me even more excited for the following year. In December of 2012, I was 14 years old and I finally got my first deer ever with my Ithaca 20 gauge pump shotgun. The following year, I upgraded to my 12 gauge Mossberg 835 and I got my first buck, an 11 pointer, 20 and 3/4 inches wide and 17 inches tall, talk about excitement! That made my love for hunting even stronger. Since then, I started bow hunting and killed my first deer with the bow, a doe, last year with my Mathews Mission compound bow. I was also lucky enough to be chosen to be a part of the Eva Shockey Book Launch Team where we get to help promote her new book “Taking Aim.” This is a real honor because she is one of my biggest idols and probably one of the most popular and inspiring female hunters out there. I am currently in college with hopes of pursuing an Environmental Biology degree so that I can become a wildlife biologist and continue my love for the outdoors throughout a career.
Craig first started hunting rabbits with family. Not being allowed to carry a gun he ran around pointing at rabbits and was hooked. He harvested his first buck at 14. After college he hunted public land for many years. After a brief stint in a club he and some friends started their own. The club is now up to 1200 acres where he has done extensive work with minerals and food plots. Averaging 40 plus days afield. When not hunting land maintenance and preparation consume the rest of the year. From Mule deer in Idaho to Geese and ducks in Oklahoma God’s creations and the thrill of the hunt are what he seeks the most.
